What social media platform are you on (for your cake business)?
I have been thinking and talking (a lot) about social media and especially Facebook and whether it is worth time to be on there.
I asked the questions in our Facebook group – What social media platform are you on (for your cake business)? and what social media platform works best for getting orders (money in the bank)?
Social media and Facebook can seem like a time waster. Especially when I get easily distracted and end up in the black hole of mindless scrolling and I surface an hour later!
YouTube also seems to magically make 2 hours fly by in the wink of an eye and don’t get me started on Pinterest!
Recently I took a poll in our Cake Business School Facebook group, asking about social media and what is working and not working for cake decorators and bakers. And below are the answers!
Top 3 are – Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest.
Well, it wasn’t a (huge) surprise as Facebook is the most popular platform for having a Facebook business fan page. If you don’t have one set up yet – here is how to set up a Facebook page in 9 steps.
Some cake decorators and bakers are on Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+, Tumblr, whatsapp (what is that?!?), YouTube and Snapchat. AND of course, the newest craze…TikTok!
What social media platform works best for getting orders (money in the bank)?
Da daaaa! Facebook does get the chicks … and the sales! (Here are 3 ways to sell cakes using Facebook.)
With Instagram, etsy and Snapchat get a couple of votes. Of course, it does depend on what type of cake or baking business you have. For example if you sell edible toppers only then setting up an etsy store is perfect for that.
If you were wanting to sell teaching and video tutorials, then setting up a YouTube channel and regularly adding more videos will be uber important to your marketing strategy.
