Cake pops have come a long way since they burst onto the scene in 2008 when blogger, Angie Dudley aka Bakerella first introduced them to the baking community.

What used to be simple rolled balls of cake and icing dipped in chocolate, have now turned into all kinds of shapes and designs.

Most bakers I know, though, have had a love-hate relationship with these delicious treats.

They can be quite tricky to get “just right,” and after many hours perfecting my technique and I’ve finally figured it out!

In this post, I want to share with you some top tips and tricks, but mostly I want to introduce a simple, affordable hack that has not only made my pops more professional looking but has also increased my productivity, and by default, my profit margins!

What is this amazing and unexpected tool? A hand-held massager!

I know it sounds crazy, but hear me out…

One of the frustrations with dipped pops has always been how to get the chocolate or candy melt to run off of the pop smoothly and flawlessly.

The old method was to gently tap the pop onto the side of the melted chocolate container, turning it as you go.  While this method does work, I still found inconsistent results.  And sometimes the pop would even fall off of the stick!  Ugh.

So how does a hand-held massager fix this?

Instead of tapping the pop onto the side of a jar, you can simply hold the freshly dipped pop over the melted chocolate with one hand, turn the massager on, and hold it onto the stick … the gentle vibration will quickly and evenly make the chocolate run off of the pop!

See it in action:

If you’ve ever toured a chocolate factory, you’ve seen this same concept.

As the candies move along the conveyor belt and get showered in chocolate, the belt vibrates to evenly distribute the chocolate coating and remove the excess.  Genius!
